A recent incident in northwest China’s Liaoning province where a 6-year-old girl was discovered to have been physically abused by her mother and the woman’s boyfriend for several years has aroused huge public rage in the country. According to a report released by China’s top prosecutor this June, from 2017 to 2019, the office prosecuted 127 guardians and caretakers for abusing children. The office said that although such number was relatively small compared to other crimes against children, their impact is often huge. The fact that there has been a growth in the number of people prosecuted in recent years shows that the effort to crack down these crimes has been taking effect.
